TrueTwit.com is back after DirectNIC’s downtime issue.  There was little that we could do about the problem except wait.  Which is really hard.  Thank you for your patience!

Sorry about this, but our domain name service provider has been under a massive DOS attack since last night.We’ll be a bit under the weather until they can get things fixed on their end.

Ahhh, the Internets.

As you have guessed, we were down for about 24 hours.  We would like to blame a massive zombie attack in the data center, but unfortunately no one believes that.  The reality is that experienced a major hardware malfunction on the server that hosts TrueTwit.    We apologize for the downtime but we had to wait for a repair facility to open before we could fix the issue.  The TrueTwit team will be taking steps in the next few weeks to avoid this amount of downtime in the future.

Twitter is having some Yuletide difficulties, which in turn is causing issues for our users.

Hopefully, they will get this resolved soon, but in the meantime, please accept our apologies.

A big part of the new TrueTwit site is the new set of features for our Premium users.  In our opinion, these features make TrueTwit a better value for your money.  If you agree, we encourage you to subscribe.  If you are not a TrueTwit user, you can sign up at http://www.truetwit.com/truetwit/signUp/index?version=premium.  If you are a TrueTwit user, you can sign up by logging on and clicking on the TrueTwit Premium link on the upper left.  It is only $20 per year.

Enough of the marketing, here is what we have added.

New Profanity Ranking

Many folks don’t like to see profanity in their twitter stream.  Others may not think it is a big deal.  Our goal at TrueTwit is to help you decide if you want to follow someone or not on Twitter.  To help you decide, we have added a Profanity ranking to our Follower Ranking process.  This will appear as a Profanity score for a given user.  Profanity ranks will take a while to be added to all 2.7 million followers, so be patient.  But if you can’t wait, check out the “Check Profile” feature.

Let’s say you are wandering around on the Net and you find the Twitter handle of a person you think you might want to follow.  But you aren’t sure because you have no idea who this person really is.  The “Check Profile” feature can help!  All you need to do is log on to your TrueTwit Premium account and click on the “Check Profile” button.  Enter the person’s handle and you will get an instant ranking of the Twitter handle’s tweets plus a sampling of their twitter feed.  Then you can follow or unfollow depending on what you think of that user.

We have been making several improvements to TrueTwit over the past few weeks.  These improvements come after a long hiatus where the development team did other things (like release TrueTwit for iPhone and Android).  We really think these improvements are going to make the TrueTwit site more useful for you and more attractive.  Here is an overview of the new features:

• Complete redesign of the site’s look and feel.  The new layout is more friendly to use and helps you navigate the site more easily.
• Added statistics to the main page to give you an idea as to how many people are on TrueTwit.  See the picture below.
• Added more advertising space.  We know, that isn’t the best news for our users, but we have bills to pay too!
• Added a twitter stream on the right hand side.  On the validate page, it is the twitter stream of the TrueTwit user you are following.  For all other pages, it is GoTrueTwit’s twitter stream.
• Made the signup options more obvious.
